Sant Jordi (St. George) is the patron saint of Catalonia, Barcelona could
hardly be without it's fair share of dragons. The above dragon is one of
the best known in Barcelona. It's on Las Ramblas, 82. (On the left going
down Las Ramblas) It's design is neo-Egyptian. On this same building, there
are many umbrella sculptures (See the next picture), which is a leftover
from the days when it was a shop selling umbrellas, walking sticks and
fans. Today it's a bank, but still retains some of it's modernist furniture
and Japanese style ornaments of wood, glass and wrought iron. The building
is known as Casa de los paraiguas. (The umbrella house) |
